Wow! 2020 is going down in the history books. Definitely its own chapter, more likely its own book. For us at the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort- 2020 will be remembered for the extensive resort renovations we took under our belt. Let’s take a look back through.
January and February started as a continuation of 2019 with our outdoor pool demolition and a few other exterior projects. If you’re new to the blog you can read previous posts about the pool enhancements here. As a refresher, we closed our pool in September 2019 for demolition and re-built a 50% larger pool in the same area with other amenities- check it out here! During the same time, the walkway leading North from the pool area to the Elm Condominiums/Nortes was closed for waterproofing.
In addition to these renovations, we made arguably our best enhancement of 2020 by replacing all the electronic door locks around the resort. This project was done in late January- replacing the older locks with new RFID locks and card keys. What a difference this has been for our Owners & guests!
Heading into late February and early March we tackled a major Hotel balcony project in conjunction with the pool renovations. All balconies on the entire West facing side of the Hotel building were repaired due to aging fascia.
Commence mid-March and the sudden impact of Coronavirus. Like many other hotels and resorts, we closed our doors beginning April 1. During the closure, we took advantage of the empty resort to complete the west-side of the Hotel balcony project, started the Elm Condominium balconies for the same fascia repair work, tented both Condominium buildings, made progress on the pool re-build, and started the exterior walkway demolition between the Hotel and Oak Condominium building. Phew!
Mid-June, after two and a half months, we re-opened our doors for Owners and guests to the resort with our new Vacation Well program implemented to keep our Owners, guests, and staff safe! The pool was still undergoing major work plus exterior work on the North side of the Elm Condominiums, the patio/tree area between the Elm condos and Nortes, and the walkway between the Hotel and Oak building. All these projects lasted the entirety of summer.
On September 8, we closed off the entire courtyard including the central green, fire pits, adult Jacuzzi, and 1st floor of the Oak condominium building- it’s crazy to admit but our entire resort was undergoing renovations. Thankfully, this was short-lived as by the end of September we re-opened the exterior walkway between the Hotel & Oak building. Soon after, in mid-October, after a year long renovation we re-opened our pool! We were beyond excited to have an amenity open for everyone to enjoy! Oh, we also finished our covered outdoor grilling area on the North side of the Hotel- complete with two (2) BBQ grills, kitchen sink, and standing bar! Check out the pictures below.
Currently, the courtyard, fire pits, adult Jacuzzi, and 1st floor corridor of the Oak condominiums building are closed for the last phase of our waterproofing project. We are anticipating this phase to be complete by June 2021. We highly encourage you everyone to review the Construction Notice of the main page of our site for regularly updated information.
It’s honestly mind-boggling to recap all the work we accomplished in 2020. WHAT A YEAR! We can not thank our valued Owners & guests enough for their understanding & patience while we make these necessary improvements to our resort. We can’t wait for the new year and to see what it brings.
Goodbye 2020. Hello 2021!
